Come one, come all to a movie and ghost hunt/tour at the New State Cinema in downtown Newton.
Beginning at 9:30 p.m., THE EXORCIST, a 1973 American supernatural horror film directed by William Friedkin and produced by William Peter Blatty, will be shown. The film stars Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Jason Miller, and Linda Blair, and follows the demonic possession of a young girl and the attempt to rescue her through an exorcism by two Catholic priests. (RATED R) $7 pp (sold separately).
Immediately following the movie, tours/ghost hunting will commence around the theater that opened in August 1936 and has experienced three fires. Experts in the field of the supernatural will be on hand to provide guidance and advice, so bring your ghost-hunting gear. Come experience 90 years of cinema and history with lots of souls who still attend the movies. During the tour, minimal walking will take place; however, stairs may be involved.
